Easy Buttermilk Scones

Ingredients

  • 225g of Self Raising Flour
  • 40g of cold butter cubed
  • 40g of Caster Sugar
  • 1 heaped teaspoon of baking powder
  • 100ml of buttermilk
  • 1 large egg

These scones are delicious and light, adding whipped cream and good quality jam, they are a real afternoon treat

These scones are so easy to make, they are delicious and crumbly

Cooking Steps

    whisk your egg and buttermilk
  • 2
    Put your self raising flour, butter and baking powder into a bowl or a quicker version use a food processor - with your finger tips crumble the butter into the flour to create a crumble style mixture

    Add the caster sugar and stir or pulse in the processor
  • 4
    Then slowly add the buttermilk and egg mixture (saving some for glazing the top) mixing to create a dough that is not too sticky (if it is to sticky add more flour)

    For a rough and ready scone, shape into a ball in your hands and put on a baking sheet or air fryer liner then glaze with the remaining buttermilk mixture

    Bake on 190 degrees for between 12-15 mins until the tops are golden and the bottoms when tapped sound hollow
